We want the Government to introduce and enforce minimum safe staffing levels in NHS hospitals, strengthen accountability for poor patient care, review discharge practices, and require the use of monitored safeguarding measures (such as cameras, with consent and strict privacy protections) on wards caring for vulnerable patients, with appropriate access for families.
Many patients, particularly elderly and vulnerable people, are experiencing unacceptable standards of care in NHS hospitals.
Concerns include patients being left without basic dignity due to staff shortages, important medical notes not being read or followed, and patients being handled in ways that risk further injury.
There are also concerns about patients being discharged too early due to pressure on hospital beds, and a lack of transparency when mistakes are made.
From personal experience, both of my parents were failed by the system. Important notes were not properly followed, mistakes were made, and there appeared to be efforts to avoid accountability. Complaints processes did not provide confidence that issues were fully and independently addressed.
We believe these issues point to systemic problems that require urgent Government action to ensure patient safety, dignity, transparency and proper accountability across the NHS, while respecting patient privacy and consent.
