It seems that there are plans to switch off BBC Radio 4 long wave in September this year?
Radio 4 long wave provides shipping forecasts and accurate time signals that are available far offshore from the UK.
FM and digital only have a narrow reach and broadcast a delayed time signal (time being important in astro navigation).
Daily Telegraph 14th. October 2015;
"US Navy recruits to learn how to navigate using the stars as America grows increasingly worried about possible hacking of computer navigation systems".
There is also the possibility of a solar flair disrupting satnav.
In this uncertain world switching off long wave seems a bad idea?
